These are the Weavers' Cottages, recalling the days when Goudhurst was one of the Kentish villages involved in the wool industry, which began in the 14th century and continued for around 300 years. The cottages have long, narrow roof spaces in order to house the looms. The wealthier Clothiers would have lived in larger houses in the village.
VML how the mono highlights and emphasises the age of the cottages. There are some near where we used to live in the UK. The graveyard is a suitable and poignant reminder of the hardships of their lives compared to what we take for granted. Even that will be old hat in 5 years.
That's a great image of the cottages and works very well in black and white. I like the inclusion of the gravestones as well, but it wouldn't have been possible to get all the cottages in shot without standing in the churchyard would it?
