My husband and I usually order a bloomin' onion appetizer when we're having steaks. We like to use some of it as steak topping but we always end up with a lot of leftover. I decided to bring the leftover home the last time we had dinner out knowing I would be making braised beef soon and I don't have onions anymore. I must say it didn't only taste good (just a little saltier), I also didn't have to add anything to thicken the sauce.
