October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I wanted to share this information on how to do a self breast exam with all my 365 friends. http://ww5.komen.org/content.aspx?id=5310
Breast Cancer does not just happen to those with the gene, or women over 40.It can happen to young woman and men too. Although there is no cure, with early detection and treatment you can live a cancer free life. There is life after cancer! It even gave me some gifts...I find joy and beauty everywhere. I make the most out of every opportunity and I am fearless now! Most of all,I am grateful for life. I wish all my 365 friends a long and happy life, too!
So glad you're one of the lucky ones, Hope. It's wonderful to find gratitude on the other side. Thanks for increasing awareness of this dreadful disease.
Nice composition Hope! I'm glad to hear you are okay. Cancer is a horrible thing. I lost an old friend only a few weeks ago ... not breast cancer, but another form.
My mother-in-law is also a breast cancer survivor. I was just reminding myself today to pick up a little pink thing for her to celebrate. Thanks for the info!
It is so important to know how to do a self examination, and go for that annual mammogram. I'm the youngest of 4 girls, and the only one who has been for a mammogram, mainly because screening in the UK used to be 50 yrs of age, now I think it may be 47? Anyway more importantly, so glad you're okay. It's such a terrible disease. Fantastic awareness shot.
this is a beautiful image ... with a awesome message that really hits home with your personal narrative .... love this new series of images of such beautiy and perspective your are creating with such regularity ... lots of kudos!!
@kenteroo thank you so much for those kind words,Lacy.I feel like it really isn't personal if there is even the slightest possibility that the knowledge can help even one person.Knowledge and Truth=Power.:)
Thank you for sharing this part of your life and for such a lovely way to express your dedication and commitment to this very worthy cause. You are brave and a real inspiration to many. This is a lovely powerful image!
Hope, your photo today was very poignant for me. I too had my life changed, it will be 2 years ago Dec. 14th. I am a survivor and I am very thankful for early detection. One never takes life for granted after traveling that darkened valley. I find beauty and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Thank you for sharing such an important message!
A brilliant message and how lovely to hear your full of 'life and appreciation' attitude! Very nice use of dof and I like the added sparkles making me feel that there is something to look forward to in the composition.
Great shot and and even better message. Yes, we created a "good list" - all the great things that come post cancer. Great attitude. Congratulations to you. Here's to continued good health and happiness!
@mzzhope No, I didn't participate, but knew people who did. I made such an impact on me and on others in Holland! Millions of euro's were raised. We've got to conquer cancer!
Oh wow what a fantastic attitude! Hope you are so brave & inspiring! My sister was 56 yesterday & she has had bowel cancer & then lung cancer she's in remission now & no matter what, she still keeps laughing! Awesome message thankyou my friend !!!!!! X hug x
A very powerful photo, although your words make it even more potent. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and certainly more grateful for the little things.
This is a wonderful image and great reminder to many. I'm glad to know you are one of the survivors. I have family members, one that we have lost last year, and it all started with breast cancer. Most people my age don't get themselves checked out but I am so cautious with our family history I've already been seen. You have a lovely attitude about it, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing, my Mum had an op and some radiotherapy for Breast Cancer this summer. She's fine now, but well done her for spotting it so early or the outcome could have been so different..... X
