This is Coopers hawk. A big, powerful rapture that eats birds, squirrels and would try for my bunnies if he could get inside! I saw him swoop down outside the cabin window and caught him just as he missed a Junco.
am amazed by your pictures ... but equally by your knowledge of nature (big and small) .. superb my friend ... you are awesome ... so much to learn from you!!
Great capture -- he seems to be wondering how he missed that junco -- glad he did! Sometimes I glimpse a red tail hawk loitering near the bird feeder but so far as I know he hasn't caught one.
Beautiful color on this hawk. I have a little white bichon dog and live in the woods, so I can't let him out without me because the hawks start hovering over him lol.
@pflaume Northern New Jersey! NJ has such a bad reputation as some kind of toxic wasteland..but I live in the rural northern part of the state near a 7 mile lake and a state forest behind my cabin. To me NJ is beautiful!
I hate it when the Red Shoulder swoops through the backyard and picks off a bird at my feeder! I understand it's the way nature works, but I still hate it! This is a beautiful shot!
@mzzhope I agree on NJ. I had a bad notion about it until I decided to drive from Philadelphia to NY without getting on 95. I just took all the back roads. It's a beautiful state! No wonder it's called the Garden State. (This is NJ isn't it?)
