Wonderful that you are happy with it. Some lovely colours there. I am wondering if that orange is the same one you posted a few days ago with Copper Sulphate and Salt sprinkled on it? Does the crack in the left hand pot not matter? And does the black sooty look polish off, or is that part of the final finish?
@seacreature Thanks Desi 😊 The copper sulphate and salt should/could have coloured the clay a pink/burgundy colour (like you can see in the cracked piece) That flash of orange came from steel wool or seaweed (can’t remember which I used) The 3 beautiful pieces in the foreground are my friend, Diane’s, and she wasn’t really concerned about the the crack. She wants to do a “kintsugi” style repair. I think it cracked because we took it out hot and sprayed it with water to make sure the colours held, but the thermal shock was too much. And finally, the black will stay! This photo was taken post washing. When they’re totally dry in a few days, we will wax and polish them 😊
Thanks for all that info. Now you mention wax and polish I can see why they look sooty to me - normally your pieces I see do have a more polished look. Gosh it is like walking a tightrope - you need to spray with water to hold the colour, but run the risk of cracking due to thermal shock. I am starting to gain a deeper appreciation of not only the art, but also the knowledge and technical skill that goes into your craft.
