The people spoke but nobody listened. The local independent supermarket was closed down - against the public’s wishes - to be replaced by one of the big two. 😕
what a beautiful mural! Does that say "IGA"? We used to have an IGA in our town but they finally threw in the towel a couple years ago. Such a shame, it had been there for generations.
@beckyk365 Yes, it does say IGA! Had no idea they were in America too. This one had been here forever. I used to take mum shopping there every Thursday...I found it really hard going back there after she died...so stopped going even though it was the closest supermarket. It was extremely popular though and was stocking a large range of vegan and gluten free products.
@narayani I was curious so I googled it. Apparently IGA is in over 30 countries including the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Brazil and a bunch more. Silly me I assumed it meant Independent Grocers of America.
Oh wow. I had no idea about IGA. So sad when the smaller, friendly, local supermarkets close to be replaced by the big impersonal monopolies. I totally get it that you didn't go back after your mum died. I realised the other day (when I started taking photos of birds again) that there are all kinds of things I've been consciously or unconsciously avoiding since Don died.
