In runs measuring more than 10kms, these are absolutely essential. But they are mere vehicles. What's more important is what they carry: fresh, cold water.
Nearby, there is also a big water truck with a prison-like length of showers to comfort the runners.
Don't worry about the litter though. These will be cleaned by a paid staff of about 500 support people for the marathon.
