these unusual flowers are on a tree in the Arboretum but I could not find the name of the tree. It came to me that I had heard of a hankerchief tree so looked at the RHS website and found it.
Handkerchief Tree – Davidia involucarta; a deciduous tree originating from China.
Other common names for it are Dove tree, Ghost tree, pocket handkerchief tree.
