Lenton Firs Rock Garden by oldjosh

Lenton Firs Rock Garden

I was walking through Nottingham University grounds on my way to University Park when I came across this.

A notice gave this information.
This massive rock garden had laid untouched for many years and had disappeared under a carpet of ivy and a forest of sycamore. Restoration started in 2006, partly financed by a grant from Nottingham Green Partnership and in consultation with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. Voluntary work was also contributed by the Friends of University Park and the Student Union Conservation Group.
Work has revealed a sandstone cliff, massive rock structures, pathways and steps mainly made from natural stone. Areas around the pool and waterfall are made from a synthetic composite, which indicates that this may be a garden constructed by the 19C firm of Pulham and Son. Research has so far failed to uncover any history of this garden which remains a mystery. Restoration of the Summer House was financed by a grant from the University Alumni.
