Crich Tramway museum by oldjosh

Crich Tramway museum

A group of us from church came here today. Three trams were running, these are two of them, both of which we rode on. The top is a Glasgow tram and the bottom, from Chesterfield. At the beginning of WW I some trams were use for recruitment to encourage men to enlist; this tram has been decorated this way for the centenary of the start of the war.
The top right is a view along the street of the museum with Crich Stand on the top of the hill.
The lower one is the view from the top of the stand with the museum to the right.
We caught the tram to the end of its journey, walked up the hill to the Stand, returning via the road back to the museum entrance.

This Lighthouse tower was built in 1923 to commemorate the 11409 men of the Sherwood Foresters who gave their lives in the First World War. In 1952 it was further dedicated to the 1520 men of the regiment who died in the Second World War.
In 1991 the memorial was dedicated to Sherwood foresters killed in service 1945 – 1970 and of the present regiment the Worcester and Sherwood Foresters Regiment who have given their lives in Service to this country. The last two names added are of soldiers who died in 2013.
This collage is a lovely collection of pictures. I especially like the trams and the text is really interesting.

Love the trams. Thank you for sharing the information about all wars and the terrible death count.

@susiemc @jan11 @gilbertwood @kerfree @koalagardens @elmay thank you for your comments, there are many trams restored and in working order in the museum they are in the tram sheds and its hard to take photos of them. More trams are in the static display
