Bishop Auckland is being regenerated, and this tower is a recent addition. it stands near the entrance to the bishops palace and deer park and market place. The Mining Art Gallery is just beyond the war memorial in the top picture and the buildings behind the hoardings will be opening soon as a gallery displaying Spanish art.
Behind the tower a Faith Museum is being built, depicting from the earliest times the different faiths of this country.
Bishop Auckland like many other towns has suffered because of out of town retail parks and although there are many empty shops, new independent shops are opening and with the ongoing redevelopment plans there is a genuine hope for the future as more visitors arrive.
