Hertford Castle

Really grey day today although I thought we were going to have blue skies-they soon disappeared. Anyway this is a shot of the wall at Hertford Castle and dates back to about 1100, Henry II. So it has probably seen an awful lot if it could tell its own story. In front of the wall is a sensory garden which looked really green today.

I'd never find this in California! Gorgeous old castle with all the stone and brick work. the oldest buildings here only date back a couple hundred years.

I can easily imagine Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine arguing behind the walls of this castle. I can almost smell the wet grass and moss.

Wonderful history and fun to be able to imagine what it means here to say 'if the walls could talk'. So interesting to have buildings much older than our country!

Such a great capture....love the textures and comp. So enchanting....just got done watching Downton Abbey...a bit hit in this country!! We got it much later here ...the 4th season just started last week. Anyway...this is very enchanting. Love it.

What a fascinating clippet - with the different stones and flints and colours it really does make you wonder what was going on over the years....
