This is on the High Line which is a new park. When I worked in Manhattan in the 80's you would not have gone near this site.
This is what happens to the bank balance after 6 days in Manhattan. Not helped by the exchange rate but also hotel near B & H photo store(enormous) and Guitar shop(enormous).
We were there for Xmas day and in reality the only difference was that some shops didn't open at all and some opened later. Very commercial but what a place to spend Xmas.
We walked the Highline last year on our visit to New York, blooming cold it was too! Would like to walk again in the summer. I remember we went to an amazing American Diner at the southern end of the walk. The railway to the Meat packing area if I remember rightly! Didn't see this guy though!
Does make you do a second look! Glad you enjoyed your visit to NYC - must be quite the place so see at Christmas. Been many years (probably early 60's) since I've seen it.
