Hmong Story Cloth by pandorasecho

Hmong Story Cloth

Crescent City has a large community of Hmong Refugees and their families. For Most of the time there was no written Hmong language and the history of the families and tribes were passed down in these talking cloths. The needlework is still impressive but with a written language for over 60 years now, they are developing new ways and hopefully keeping the old

If anon is interested, there is a beautiful, kid's picture book about these, called "Dia's Story Cloth" http://www.amazon.com/Dias-Story-Cloth-Dia-Cha/dp/1880000636/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332250157&sr=8-1
I LOVE this piece of work by the Hmong, Dixie!! I think that their work is exquisite. I bought a smaller piece from them years ago. And I cherish it . . not as elaborate as yours, but so beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

I love the colors. What a rich tradition. They will probably adapt and join the written and stitched versions together somehow.
