This ball was my toy 49 years ago, but the babies around here still pull it out to play, they love the chimes but it gives their mom's a headache
The pull toy was actually my Mom's toy and the nesting doll is from my visit to Poland on the bottom shelf you can see the birthmark on the head of the Russian Leaders Nesting doll
The Circle game
Songwriters: MITCHELL, JONI
Yesterday, a child came out to wander
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
And the seasons they go 'round and 'round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
Then, the child moved ten times 'round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, "When you're older", must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go 'round and 'round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came,
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels through the town
And they tell him, "Take your time. It won't be long now.
'Til your drag your feet to slow the circles down"
And the seasons they go 'round and 'round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through.
And the seasons they go 'round and 'round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and 'round and 'round
In the circle game
And go 'round and 'round and 'round in the circle game.
I love those toys ... my daughters had similar ones and I'll bet that they would be worth more now than what I paid for them. Beautiful composition and lots of memories for me.
this photo seemed like a snapshot from my childhood. no, we didn't have toys like this, but my cousins did, on a shelf just like this one. i remember accompanying my mother at my aunt's house and i sit beside her looking at my cousin's toys and wondered how some people can have so much and some didn't. not that i wanted toys, but i knew my younger siblings would enjoy them. the toys eventually made their way to our home when the cousins were tired of them, and then we pass them on to the neighbours who also didn't have any. this photo made me smile at the memory.
