out in the yard

Our house sits where an old redwood logging camp used to be. Here I am by one of the reasons it is called "wonder stump Road"
whoa! you can make a little house with that stump. and what beautiful skies you had.

Bob
I bet that stump is big enough for a playhouse.

My question is why would someone waste all that wood when cutting down the tree? And what is growing out of the old stump? Just weeds/bushes?

@hoosierhokie They always cut them off that high above the ground. The base was too big for the man powered cross cut saws they used 130 years ago, plus a lot of redwoods have a hollow base like a cave inside. The top is a very productive huckleberry bush

You look so tiny next to that stump! Bet that could be used to make a great piece of furniture. It's huge!

Uh...that huge stump makes you WONDER! wow! It makes me want to go back in time and see the tree. This is amazing!

Cool find and shot. I would be tempted to do something creative with this stump.

Brilliant.

Love the idea of using yourself to give perspective on the "stump". I also like the idea of hollowing it out and making a little playhouse- how cool would that be? Nice shot!

@olivetreeann We have several and one is hollow and has a half deck about four feet off the ground inside, with a ladder up to it. And a spruce growing up out of it. Another two have stairs carved into them with chainsaws and a deck built between them.

These two. The one in the background included have a cable with a swing on a pulley between them

Holy crapola, look at the size of that tree stump. Whoa!
