Icarus is a "double yellow-headed Amazon" a parrot who came to us at 7 weeks old and who is now quite the talker/singer/whistler. He can call me in the voices of both my sons and my husband, and he can clearly use my voice to say, "Hello Icarus" and to call the boys
When we got him we kept him close to a cock-a-too named Sunshine. One day Sunshine knocked him down and snatched out a bunch of feathers from his head. Hence, Icarus who got too close to Sunshine.
Looks like he likes to get up close and personal! That would truly cause me to do a double take every time I heard the voice of someone in my family coming from a bird. But I really love those talking birds- they're so entertaining! I remember the pet shop from when I was growing up which had a Mina Bird that talked. My mother would have to drag me away from him I was so fascinated by him. Of course the fact that he kept saying "Pretty girl" over and over didn't hurt either!
funny story about how icarus came to be called. i remember the first talking bird i came across here in toronto, it was in a used appliance shop. partner and i entered and i heard this little voice, hello, mother and father f****rs! kiss my a**!" it was funny at first and it was pissed i was laughing. of course the bird killed the deal for us as partner was terribly annoyed!
