Crescent City CA has 2 lighthouses, at low tide this i the one you can walk to. I don't have the kind of telephoto to get a very good shot of the other one. but I did get an Ok shot that is here http://365project.org/pandorasecho/365/2012-02-06
@gooner46 This one is in operation and there are tours through it, but the one out at sea, has been defunct and just had the light tower repaired and a new light installed.
Very pretty- have you walked out to it? Sounds like that might be fun if it isn't too far. I know looks can be deceiving at the beach with some things looking closer than they really are.
@olivetreeann Yes been in it all the way up to the light. That itself is so amazing. It's like a jewel. Back when the tsunami wiped out the town in 1964 the lighthouse keeper and his wife watched it peel back the ocean and then pile up the water but it went around the island.
@pandorasecho That sounds fascinating- Jeff and I watched a special on the weather channel once about a tsunami (I think it was in the 1800's) which had a scene concerning a lighthouse- not this one. The stories in it were based on actual accounts of this particular storm. I can't remember the exact details but the lighthouse keeper and his family had gone into the lighthouse for safety from the storm but somehow the dog got out. Their son was in a panic about it, so the man went out to catch the dog but he couldn't keep up with it. He ended up following the dog up a high cliff overlooking the ocean and lighthouse and watched in horror as the tsunami took out the lighthouse with his wife and son. Needless to say I was sort of sorry to watch that!
