This mantle clock used to have a place in my grandma's house and looked a lot like one described in a book she used to read to me about a tiny girl who slid down a mantle clock, and left her footprints in a crock of lard and was trapped under a colander and almost suffocated after plugging all the holes with hands full of clay trying to block the light showing through. Never can remember the book's title or even the character's name but the clock reminds me of my grandma's arms around me as she read it to me.
What a lovely treasure. Your grandma read some very interesting stories! I can just think of how they must have captured your imagination. Have you ever seen the movie Hugo, about a little boy and a clock? Your memory reminds me of that...Very memorable shot, love the three little pigs. :)
Sounds like the story must have had a moral to it in some way- otherwise it sounds scary- suffocating in a plugged up colander! But Grandma reading to you sounds sooo nice!
@olivetreeann a lot of kids stories were scary. I think the morale of this one was simply to not mess around with the grown ups tools until you were old enough. But poppy was like a tiny fairy that got lost and ended up in a human house.
