Monuments are the needles which sew together our past and future, retelling the tales which were important to our ancestors and reminding us which values our civilization cherished enough to try to carve into stone. How we maintain the monuments and retell the stories determines how much they will carry into the fabric of the future.
Tee Hee, how is that for stretching to fit a word to a picture. July word needle
Beautiful composition. My favorite memory of the Lincoln Memorial was the first time I saw the memorial. I walked up the stairs and into the "room" at the top of the stairs. It took me a few moments to see the statue of Lincoln. My eyes must have been as big as saucers when I saw how large the statue was. This was before the addition of the lighting to this memorial. Your words touched me.
I don't know Dixie- what you wrote is awesome!! And if I just read it without knowing about the "word of the day", I would have still been moved by it! The statue is amazing, your family is precious and your prose is beautiful. I'm copying this one down!
