Alive?

Sometimes turning living trees into ashes and smoke just to heat my home, feels sad. Sometimes the dancing flames are the Gladest things I know. I know it doesn't help the planet but I love a fire's glow and the dry warmth in my house. And this couple of chunks of wood, stacked and ignored in the rain, almost seem to be laughing

Well, it does look like it has a face! I am so thankful for our woodstove right now- it's very cold here, but the house is warm!

it is animate. Where we get wood, there's enough that falls on its own to provide for us and leave fallen trees to do the whole decay/habitat thing. But we're lucky
