we always had wood piles like this when i was a kid. i still remember thinking we were "cool" running out in our slippers or just socks in feet of snow to get wood for the fireplace or our wood burning stove... yeah, we were not cool - just ended up with wet feet! great image brings back memories for me!
Since I sold my house and moved to my townhouse, no more wood-burning fireplace...I miss the smell of the wood burning. Now I just flip a switch for an instant fire. Not quite the same ambiance but sure is convenient!
i don't have fireplace in my house (probably a big mistake when we bought the house, didn't think it was important at the time, city girl!!! :) anyway, i would like to have one some day :)
