Peeling back the Layers

I love the river birch tree in my garden. In the summer, it offers us a lovely shade canopy (and privacy from the neighbors!). In the winter, I enjoy the colorful layers of peeling bark. I decided to explore the layers a little closer for day #2's photo.

I really like all the tones and textures. It would be so hard for me to resist peeling just one little piece off. The layers of bark remind me of chocolate curls. Nice shot.
