After longing for some time for a macro lens, I finally made a purchase. This is my first experimental shot with my new Nikon 60 mm lens. I need to read up on the ideal settings, etc. but for a first pass, I'm very pleased with the result.
Oh, absolutely gorgeous! Instant fav for the colors and fab focus! Have fun with your new lens, as I can see you don't need any additional info on how to use it :)
I do love clematis. Clemati. Clematises? Oh, whatever the plural is! So many different varieties. I couldn't deliberately grow one, because I hear they're quite difficult, but I had one grow on my balcony once, from a seed brought in on the wind. My ex saw it and thought it was a weed, and wanted me to pull it out, but I wanted to see what came from it...
A great macro with good detail. Am interested that you've finally taken the plunge. So not a Tamron 90 or 100, or a Nikon 85, but a Nikon 60 mm. What decided you in the end? I'm now oscillating between macro and wide angle: I do enjoy taking buildings and would like to shoot more landscapes, so am wondering if the latter might be a good idea ...
@dolphin Thanks Molly. It was such a difficult decision for me; I wavered up until making the purchase. Still wonder if it was the right choice! I stuck with NIkon because of brand loyalty. I also thought the lens might retain it's value for resale somewhat better than a third party lens. I struggled mightily with both the cost and focus length. Basically, I didn't want to cough up the big bucks for the 105mm. I also liked the idea of a lens with a closer to "normal" length, thinking it might be more versatile for me. I like to avoid lens changes as much as possible when I am out photo crawling. I am hoping the 60 mm will allow for the possibility of "wider" shots with the ability to go close when I want.
I think a wide angle could be a great lens for you, especially considering the buildings and architectural shots you like to take. It's always a very hard decision no matter what!
Congrats on the new lens! It's clearly a great choice for you given this is only your first image and it's stunning. Is the 60mm a micro (or macro) or did you create a macro effect just by your settings? It's really beautiful.
Ooooh Lisa! Love this - cannot wait to see what fun you have with this lens. It is, amongst others, also on my wish list. Wonderful shot and looking forward to more.

You'll get some great bokeh shooting wide open
