Meant to Be

More hours in the day, please! That's been my wish all week. This was a quick shot of a fence I have had my eye on for awhile. Weathered wood and ivy is the perfect pairing. Simple, but pleasing to me.

Thanks for taking the time to view and comment. It is always very much appreciated!
I just viewed large and can totally understand why the 'photographer' in you wanted to click this ... the textures on the weathered wood are fab and so is the contrast between that wood and leaves ... and the lines the planks make just fit in perfectly ... FAV all the way!!

I do love the textures and especially the knots in the wood. I can see the eyes looking back at you. Lovely composition.

Love the textures, Lisa. Great shot.

Of course you wanted to take this photo. I would too!
Love the ivy & wood textures.

This has a nice design, and the foliage adds interest. Especially the one peeking through the crack. Go back and retake this in about 10 years when the wood has weathered more!

Love this.

beautiful light, tones and textures! love the composition too!

The long light really makes this a great shot. The shadows of the vines, the texture and color of the wood...very beautiful and well-timed!
September 21st, 2013
Great lines, textures and tones. I second the more time wish!
September 21st, 2013
I can see why you were drawn to this, the contrast between the wood and the ivy is very striking, and it works very well with the cross of the planks.

This is beautiful, Lisa!

September 21st, 2013
It is very pleasing, the simplicity of the elements and the ivy couldn't fall any more perfectly. Also like the X of wood. How's your new job going Lisa?

@happysnap Thank you, Linda. I have been meaning to tell you that I always look forward to reading your astute observations and thoughtful comments on my photos and the photos of others. You have a great ability to see and describe the essential elements of a photo. I know that takes time to look closely and respond in more detail, and I really appreciate that. You are kind to ask about my job. It's going pretty well all things considered. I am working from home and can make my own schedule somewhat which works well because I usually have to interrupt my day to take children to various activities, etc. So far, it's more hours than I wanted. I accepted the job, thinking it would be part time but it has ended up being closer to full time. It is somewhat cyclical though so my hope is that things will settle down soon. I lament not having as much time for this project, but I know this is the norm for many if not most of the people here. It can be done, I just have to find a new approach for myself. I'm hoping that I will get better at seeing photo ops where I am which is really the point anyway. Do you work, Linda?
September 21st, 2013
I love this shot -- the textures, the x that the two boards form and the framing by the trees. Fantastic!
Interesting to read that your job has turned into more than you'd expected -- hope things settle down. Finding a balance between work and all the other things we need and want (e.g., 365, family) to do seems to always be challenging!

@taffy Thanks for your comment and your support in all ways, Taffy. You are so right about balance. I keep photographers like you in mind when I think it can't all be done. You juggle it all and constantly inspire with your wonderful photos.

@pflaume That is so sweet of you to say!! I feel like you do though. I was so far behind in commenting that I am not allowing myself to post until I've caught up. And for the past 2 hours almost, i've been doing only commenting! I love seeing all the photos, though -- so inspiring, but then I see these emails from my students, asking where their comments are on their papers, or look around the house at the cleaning I should be doing, not to mention washing my hair for an event tonite for our students. AGH! I don't feel in balance at the moment (yet, I continue commenting...)

You've captured the textures of the wood beautifully in this simple but effective composition. Interesting reflections on balancing time. I struggled so much with the work-life balance until a few years ago when I attended a 'superworking' course for women, organised by the university. In it we learnt the importance of attending to all different aspects of our lives - including the creative. So 365 provides the perfect excuse to do just that. Having said that, it can take up an awful lot of time, and I'm glad I have a job where I can for the most part choose when to fit in my work. Good luck with all your balancing acts!
September 21st, 2013
Wonderful textures and light. I think there's a pair of eyes peering out from the top crosspiece, right of centre.
Sounds as if you are feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. I hope you are able to find a balance to suit you soon. Are you enjoying the work?
September 21st, 2013
Totally gorgeous! Great eye.

Wood is so photogenic. Good job.

Nicely seen and captured. Love the tones in this!
September 22nd, 2013
Fav without a doubt, love those textures and how those trees frame it very beautifully, it really is a very beautiful shot!

Lovely crop. Nice textures. A very pleasing image
September 22nd, 2013
This is perfect - fav!
September 22nd, 2013
beautiful colours and textures, fantastic shot:)
September 22nd, 2013
Beautiful - love the textures and processing!

I empathize about the time, Lisa - I am really struggling with it, too - but don't want to give this up. Hang in there. I snatch moments when I can. Too wet to go hiking today so will spend an hour here. :-)

Beautiful tones to this lovely weathered wood and, you are right, the ivy complements it beautifully. It's a very pleasing shot to me too. Thanks for continuing to comment on my project when you are so overwhelmed. I do appreciate your support.

@pflaume Aah, thank you Lisa, you are too kind. I feel that I am not very good with writing down what I want to say and that my comments are often not adequate. Some people have such a nice way of bringing their comments across. I too always look forward to your shots and comments and really appreciate your loyal following, you do an amazing job! I am self employed and know all too well the advantages and disadvantages of working from home. Those interuptions are a blessing because it means we can juggle everything to fit, but it is the interuptions that make it so frustrating as it often feels like you can't just get on with and stuck into one thing at a time. It can make the day very long too, if the work gets carried into the evening. Having said that, I do love the freedom element of working for myself. Like everything, there are pros and cons. I am sure, with time, you will find a good balance that works for you. As for keeping up with 365, sometimes it really stresses me, other times I can adopt a more relaxed attitude. But there are only so many hours in the day!
September 22nd, 2013
Lovely shot! Even when you're unemployed as I am you still have to work at balancing things. I'd love to spend the day on 365, but for some reason my husband thinks the food for dinner has to be prepared by me- hehe! So, I think we can all appreciate the struggle. Just keep in mind there are no 365 police, so you can work with your project in the way that it's best for you. Everyone has been there at one time or another. Good shot.
September 22nd, 2013
Lovely shot of beautiful wood and textures! Love the lighting too!

@dolphin Molly, thank you for your comment and understanding. You are absolutely right that some kind of creative outlet is really important. It's easy to get caught up with all the responsibilities of everyday life and not make time for ourselves in the ways that would be most gratifying. This project is still a priority for me. I just have to be a bit more easy going about it and not allow it to become one more pressure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Thanks also for your continued support over all these months. It means so much to me!
September 23rd, 2013
@dulciknit Thank you so much, Alison! I am a little overwhelmed but I do have the sense that with time all will be well. I do like the work and am quite excited to be among the gainfully employed again. Thanks so much for your support throughout this project. I really appreciate it!
September 23rd, 2013
@olivetreeann You are so right, Ann. No matter whether employed or not, we all have to achieve balance in our lives. Changes in circumstances require an adjustment to things in balance and that is OK. I do remind myself that this is my project and it will unfold the way I can and want it to. The important thing is not to allow it to become another stressor; keep it fun and satisfying. Thanks for your comment and your continued support.

@jankoos Thank you, Jan! I'm glad you can relate. I suspect a lot of people here can. This project is wonderful, but very time consuming, too. We have come so far. It would be unthinkable to quit. But, some days I really wonder how I can ever find a photo, let alone another 95! I know we will do it though. Failure is not an option! Thanks for your understanding and support since the beginning. Means so much to me!
September 23rd, 2013
@suesmith Sue, thank you for your understanding and support. I love to visit your album and see your wonderful photos. I also always look forward to your thoughtful comments and feedback. While I may be occasionally slowed or detoured by other responsibilities - I won't be stopping any time soon!
September 23rd, 2013
@happysnap Thanks for sharing, Linda! You are so right about the ups and downs of working from home and a flexible schedule. Yes, I think with time everything will settle down nicely. Until then, I have to remind myself that this project is for fun and not allow it become stressful. I really appreciate your understanding and support, Linda. Thank you so much!

Wonderful picture Lisa, love the light in it!
Read the conversations above about 'balance- work-family-365 Project. So recognizable :-)) On this moments I feel that English is not my mother language because it is more difficult to express the 'first feelings/thoughts' and give easy words to it. Not that I want to say so much more ;-) but it takes just more time to exactly express the way you do in your mother language...and time is just the issue.
September 23rd, 2013
Thank you, Sjouk. I know you understand and struggle with the same. I haven't really thought of the extra challenge of participating here in a second language. I am impressed with your English (it's very good!) and the effort and time you give to commenting. Thank you for that! It is really appreciated.
September 23rd, 2013
I got busted this week for too much 365 time. Good luck finding the balance. Love this image. So great with the lines and falling ivy.
September 23rd, 2013
Great processing, allows one to concentrate on and appreciate the simple composition.
September 23rd, 2013
I can feel the warmth coming off this wood! Love the textures and composition. I sympathise totally with the work/365/family balance - none of them can give way in my book, although if it comes down to the line 365 has to take a back seat at times - I can't let it stress me too much (though with the number of followers that you have and your consideration in commenting I can imagine it's much more of an effort for you than me!) People will always understand if you let slip to make way for other things at times.
September 24th, 2013
yes it is very nice. I like the x and also the hanging ivy. very pretty
September 25th, 2013
Love the textures and light and the balance of this shot Lisa. I worked from home for many years, at first when my children were small and then they would say I was working all the time and I gave up my job, but started again a few years later and found it much easier and then I started not only to work from home but to also go to various offices which I thoroughly enjoyed. I like the way you can structure the day how you want to and Lisa it will become second nature to you soon.
I really don't know how people that work balance the commenting on 365. I find it takes me hours to comment on all I am following and then discover that I have missed someone out. I seem to be constantly busy but for the life of me I don't know how or why!
