Excited to share my first attempt at astrophotography. I joined my photo meet up group on an outing to photograph the Milky Way this past weekend. We headed 1.5 hours out of town to a location that offered dark skies. The forecast was for partly cloudy conditions, but we went anyway and hoped for the best.
I was happy to see stars in the clearing sky when I took this shot, but didn't realize that the Milky Way was right in front of me! What a wonderful surprise to find it there when I viewed this on the computer. It's quite amazing what the camera can "see" beyond the human eye!
The purple haze on the left is a bit of the Aurora Borealis that was also forecast for that night. Again, didn't see it in person but the camera sure did. The golden light is from a little town in the distance. My favorite is the way the stars reflect in the water.
I am pretty thrilled with the result. Oh, and please take the time to view on black. :)
Holy cow, what a great result. This is on the bucket list for me, so it is wonderful to see you grab a good one. Sometime, if you don't mind, it would be great to know your settings, etc. They are not showing up in the exif information. Amazing shot and a total fav.
@rosiekerr Hi Rosie, I'm sorry that my exif info is not showing. I added the info to my comments. I took this at ISO 3200, aperture f/2.8, 30 sec exposure. Thank you for your comment and fav!
I had to come back and look at it on the large screen. This is really such an amazing shot -- the leading lines below put it a cut above an already fabulous sky.
Wow that's quite a shot you definitely deserve a fav for it. As I said in my message, I'm so pleased that you are still around as I've always loved your work and hopefully it will inspire me to pick up my camera a bit more.
Wow! I am impressed...and envious. We do not have dark skies like this. That said my husband does astrophotography with his telescope and gets some cool stuff.
Your shot is incredible...all of it: light, star reflections (amazing!), leading lines...I would be thrilled too and your first!!
You need to look at this on black.
