Today, we lost an aunt, a sister, a daughter, a mother.
Julie (bottom right; sister to my mum, left, and daughter to my nonna, top) had been battling a very severe form of a rare autoimmune disease known as scleroderma. Within weeks she had deteriorated and was under close hospital care, until she came to peace at 11:30pm on Saturday, 16th June. She was 52 years old.
It all happened quite suddenly but in a strange way we were prepared, and we knew that she was too.

My heart goes out to you. It's never easy but when someone is so young it doesn't seem right. I have my own experience as my Mum died at the age of 43. Wonderful to have this lovely memento of the family all together xx
I missed this portrait until seeing Cass' upload today. A beautiful family photo and I'm so sorry to read about your loss, but I think it is wonderful to know that your family was prepared and at peace. As a side note, I was once tested for scleroderma, but the results came back negative and the neurologists never landed on a diagnosis. I think my body was just reacting to a lot of stress, as my symptoms almost completely subsided in time. Autoimmune diseases are so scary and counterintuitive.
A beautiful photo :)
Such a lovely family portrait.
