The steep set of steps had a character to it and a grandfather and his charges waited for me to photograph it, but it didn't come alive without someone in it. Nonetheless, I am not happy with this and feel there is a better photo here to be had, so I am tagging this for the 52 Week Challenge.
Love how the pink coat pops in this and warms up the entire image. I wonder if you'd used selective color, for only the pink, and then high contrast b&w, if you'd be happier with the resulting image. To me, the composition works, the pink works, but the greenish tones don't add anything specific to the scene. That's why I think b&w might be a way to go -- except of course for the pop of pink. I had a similar issue in the image I posted here: https://365project.org/taffy/365/2020-02-29
Hope this helps as I don't mean to offend in any way!
@taffy Thank you for you for your critique. I only have the basic photo editing software that comes with iPhoto and it does not offer selective colour. I was trying to go in that direction by using the fade option, so the other colours are toned down, but not enough to get the result you suggested. Advice is always welcome so no need to apologise!
@redandwhite There may be a way to do this in picmonkey if you've ever worked with that. And there are apps. If I find something free that would let you do this, I'll let you know!
@taffy@fbailey Thank you for the suggestion. I played with Pic Monkey and posted that version in my Also Rans album. It works much better! Love this site, you learn something new all the time!
This image implied a story to me -- like, what's the photographer doing at the bottom of the steep stairs when that little girl made it to the top? I also like the ideas suggested above here. On the other hand, I have no idea how to do selective color either.
Hope this helps as I don't mean to offend in any way!
