Avebury

Year 2 Day 137
We visited Avebury today, a place that's been special to me for as long as I can remember, having grown up just a few miles away and visited here many times throughout my life. The kids weren't too bothered by some ancient stones but then Nintendo and the internet didn't exist when I was young! It's quite hard to get a decent shot of the stones on a beautiful summers day as the place is rammed with tourists so I went for something more akin to my normal style but including one of the biggest stones.

Just in case you've never heard of Avebury : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avebury

Thanks for the link as I've never heard of it. The juxtaposition of the people and the rock is amazing

Wow! What a great place! I love how the group in the back look like they are posing for you!

it really makes you wonder how they managed to move such massive boulders into place- especially since the exact measurements of where they sit are usually thought to be pretty significant. Whatever the reasons and purpose it must have been pretty important to warrant such effort. Nice juxtaposition with the teeny people on the hill.

i know they are far away from the rock..but omg that is wild how tiny they look and how ginormous that rock looks..

fun shot with the people adding scale - I thought there was some thought that the Avebury circle had been "helped" by a landowner in the 17-18th century or thereabouts

Great composition. It is an awsome place. I used to go there, and Stonehenge, Old Sarum etc years ago when my father was posted to Tidworth.

Magnificent composition with those people in the distance to set off the sheer size of it.
