Goldeneye Low Water Flight

Hi Ralph, Can you please explain how to get this result?
It's a great capture!

@jacqbb I set the shutter speed to 1000 to try to slow down most of the wing motion. I set the exposure bright enough to get good autofocus (I use CAF with a slow burst rate so the camera tries to refocus after each shot). I then do some dehazing in post processing as the water tends to get over exposed.

@rminer Hi Ralph, This is all new to me so forgive me if I'm a bit slow.
I set my camera in S mode, shutter speed to 1000. Exposure on F4 or F5,6 and I use C-AF instead of S-AF.
I'm going to try this tomorrow, Thank you for answering my question.

I like using an aperture of 5.6 or 6.3 to get most of the duck in focus. If you are using S mode instead of manual mode the camera will select the aperture for you (typically as wide open as the lens allows). The key is to allow your ISO to go up enough to support fast shutter speeds and an aperture which gets everything in focus - so good light helps. I like to shoot in burst mode so that I get multiple chances of getting a picture I like

Thank you for your answer. I practised today and posted a photo. I tried to post it in this comment but that didn't work. I would love some feedback if you have the time.

@jacqbb If you go to Sizes under Photo Details you can copy and past the HTML to get your picture to show up as a comment
