Talking of roadsides and possibly the need arising to avoid them, if you want a laugh, have a look at these 47 seconds of a guy herding deer with his faithful dog, Fenton. It does go so very wrong. Boy, Fenton must've thought all his christmases had come at once! That was hilarious to watch! I'm expecting a herd of deer to come trampling over your roadside at any moment!
