The photo, not much but the story much more! This old lady passed us begging...all you could see was the hand with a glass hold out towards you. She was totally bend fore ward. You could not see the face. She wore a sort of hoody/cape. Looking at her I noticed the worn shoes. Said to my husband, shame we do have so much to be grateful of. We manage to give her as much money we did have with us. That done one of the locals approached us. He said that, that was no old lady but a 17 year old boy dressed like that and collecting money from tourist. I turned back and that was the photo I got. Not wanting to cause trouble I just went on. Just before that we saw the police getting hold of people selling handbags illegally in the same area.
A great shot and a rather disturbing story. I often do as you did, when feeling that we should be grateful for what we have. Because there are a lot of people in need. But I would have been as disappointed as well by the.
Thank you for sharing.
That's quite a story -- makes one wonder about people.... You did get a fine shot out of it! And I was glad to read that you and your husband are able to travel a bit now.
@aikimomm Sorry to say my husbands health is not better and travel is out. This photo was taken way back in 2010 in the good old days. The only travel we do these days is once a week to the shops. That is difficult because he gets tired. I do keep him in mind and try to get him out of the house once a week. Just to see the world around him. Enjoy your stay and the baby!
Interesting shot and story. But Sylvia you did what your conscience indicated and I always remember a colleague telling me 'You are not responsible for other people's actions' so I think you should not have felt bad in any way.
Great shot and processing. It's always so tricky to know who to believe. I think it's better to give money to someone who doesn't need it, than to withhold it from someone who does.
He should have taken an acting career rather than beg for money - he looks good at acting. Quite a story there. I would have done the same as you in the circumstances. Fantastic shot, too.
@sdutoit Oh. I should have realized the photo was from some time ago. Do know I am holding you and your husband in the Light. It think it is grand of you to be so involved in 365; I'm sure it's a supportive and centering activity for you, as it is for many of us. Your work is so creative. And thanks, I did enjoy my stay; it was delightful to be around the little ones.
@aikimomm Ha ha looking at shadow differently now! I think it is better spending your energy on something creative than getting depression from something you can't change. Live learned me a lot. Only live for today. I lost 2 children and now the illness of my husband, I can't understand but do believe there is a reason for everything. My photos not that good, but it keeps me out of mischief!
A great shot and a very interesting story, Sylvia. It is disturbing and sad that things like this happen. Scammers like him are found everywhere & can make many people reluctant to help others who may truly need it. Bless your kind intentions.
Great shot and an interesting story. Too bad that you were victims of a young con man, but I think the most important thing for you and your husband is that you had a and followed such a generous impulse. The phoniness of the "old woman" in no way damages that!
Shame on him for duping people like that, but it does show some creativity and ability to think outside the box on his part. That said, I do agree 100% with Hazel's comment.
Just looking at your photos & although you felt cheated by this con man your gesture & generosity came to the same good thing on your part......he should feel ashamed! Thanks for the follow Sylvia.
@happypat Thanks Pat for the follow. We had a good laugh about this "old lady" that trapped us! I love your photos. 2 Of my Children lives in London. Would love to stay there. We will just have to get use to the weather. Sunny day here but the wind is blowing quite a bit. They said it is going to rain tomorrow. Hope so because we do have water restrictions now.
