Hi, in today's Observer:
USA: Earth moves in Seattle as Seahawks score
When Marshawn Lynch scored an astonishing 67-yard touchdown for the Seattle Seahawks in their shock NFC wild-card round play-off win against reigning Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints, last Saturday, there was a further side effect that went unnoticed.
The touchdown, rapidly becoming known as one of the greatest runs in play‑off history, created such a stir among the Seahawks fans, stomping and jumping as Lynch approached the endzone, that the nearby Pacific Northwest Seismic Network registered an earthquake, reports the Seattle Times.
The institute's director, John Vidale, said the energy was equivalent to a magnitude one or two quake. "You probably would have felt it very easily if you were outside the stadium," he said, with "a clear 30 seconds or so of moderate shaking". The Seahawks will hope to cause another tremor when they face the Chicago Bears tonight.
