The Blue Trees Project Come To Seattle Westlake Plaza
Every year the planet loses some 32 million acres of old growth forests. Konstantin Dimopoulos states, “Through my work I am striving to address global issues and provide a visual platform to affect change. So many universal concerns seem larger than an individual’s power of influence and I want to evoke in people the idea that we can all contribute to change in a positive way.”
Blue is a color that is not naturally identified with trees and suggests that something unusual, something out of the ordinary is happening. In nature, color is used both as a means of protection and as a mechanism to attract. The Blue Trees is an attempt to elicit a similar response from viewers and inspire conversation and action around deforestation issues.
A great project - we're losing trees everywhere. What's happening in Indonesia in particular is alarming because the endangered orang-utan is losing acres of habit by the week to the palm oil producers who chop down native forests and replace them with their stunted palm trees.
@maggieh I was living in NYC when The Gates went up. So amazing. I am now in Seattle and my neighbor was the engineer on that project. Got some real insight on the process.
With one of the worst rates in the world, Cambodia is a country that will be stripped bare before too long....people in developing countries tend to think for the moment (understandably) not for the future (after all they are not convinced they have one) ....
