I find this sort of event absolutely fascinating ((from a photographic standpoint)...I just know nothing about the characters. I do, however, love the ability of individuals to carry off their passion with such a creative flair at these events! (Care to share how it was you came to be there?)
@Weezilou Louise I have gone to this convention the last 4 years. I go and photograph the costumes, people and you are so right their passion to get involved. Such a piece of Americana! I don't dress up and have no idea who 80% of the characters are, however the participants are more than willing to educate me! I am glad you find it fascinating too.
@seattle My sister used to go to SciFi conventions of some sort and we found ourselves in the middle of it one year when we went into LA to see her. Let's say I found it "oddly fascinating" and Ken was quite speechless... We agreed that it's human nature to want to "belong" and to be a part of a group. It's so interesting to step outside of our own circles and to see what's happening elsewhere! AND, I agree that I think the people LOVE to be photographed having gone to such extremes to get into character (including such things, too, as Ren Fairs and war re-enactors)
You have to MARVEL at the importance of costumes in the fight between villains and super heroes. Your photo is the perfect example of life imitating art. Fav+
It is truly amazing how much thought and effort go into these costumes. This shot is so "Big Bang" like with a group of guys ignoring the lusty ladies!
