chimneys by shannejw

chimneys

Sorry, mad catch up - having my daughter down for the weekend and meetings after work on Monday and Tuesday plus a tube strike today doesn't make for spare time

This is the black and white version of the chimneys shot in my extras album to show the choices made between black and white and colour. I usually post street shots as b&w. This is taken in Bow - the older houses that are still there in the back streets.

It is an entry for week 2 of the February B&W Book Club - http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/20950/bw-book-club-week-2-feb-3-9

Thank you for looking and your amazing response to my light trails picture, and the geometry before that.
Great stepping stone chimneys. Reminds me of the chimney sweep in 'Mary Poppins'.

It's the B&W version for me but I couldn't really say why. Not too helpful I know, it's just a feeling.

The B+W has a touch of Bill Brandt to it, though I guess he never shot many TV aerials!!

I like the B & W best. I think I'd also like it better if it was a cloudy or rainy day. Don't know why. I do like the composition and lines.

Very nice B&W and the lines of the chimneys make for a good composition I think.

Great composition, lovely photo.

Brilliant neat row of chimneys - that's a lot of fires - were they individual houses or back to back types?
February 8th, 2014
@judithg it's a terrace of houses - I have got a shot of them face on but chose the market shot instead
February 8th, 2014
Reminds me of the houses my son lived in when he was a student in Leeds.... great urban capture.
February 8th, 2014
@jackie8 ha me too! Oh, and when I was a poorly paid lecturer I lived in one too... Love all the vertical and horizontal lines. Looks like home to me.
February 8th, 2014
@jackie8 @fueast I dread to think what they are worth - they are just around the corner from Bow Church DLR and Bow Road District Line tube station, but it's not a particularly lovely area
February 8th, 2014
@shannejw ah you're right. I probably couldn't even afford one now...
February 8th, 2014
This reminds me of Mary Poppins. I'm just waiting for Dick Van Dyke to pop up out of one of those chimneys and start singing, "Chim Chim Cher-ee"...
February 9th, 2014
love this! makes me homesick for Manchester, love the repeating pattern, great pov, and good choice of bw ...fav

I am really liking your b/w shots. The detail really comes out and gives lots of character. Nice light on them.
