We moved into our house nearly 16 years ago. We had a dog and two young children, and were quickly expecting a third child. With the dog running in one direction and the toddler in another, it quickly became apparent to us that we would need to fence in the yard, So we installed a chain link fence.
Chain link is functional, but not very attractive. So we embarked on a project - we bought some ivy cuttings and planted them around the base of the fence. I worked on training the ivy to go through the fence, and cultivated more cuttings so we could plant more of them at closer intervals.
Sixteen years later, the fence is indeed covered with ivy. Since we are baseball fans, my husband and I always think of this as our homage to Chicago's Wrigley Field.
I was surprised how much work it took to get a decent image of the ivy and of the fence!
