I found a couple more of these around the area we stayed.
All the other locations were spelt as the current spelling of the town/village is. There were no other examples of reversed letters, however in all other examples the town name was split over 2 lines. (Maybe this is early text speak!!!! Or a stone mason having a bad day!)

Often the letter S was written as a letter F without the cross bar! But not sure about the reversed one
