After muddling through 18 months with a beat-up old 2nd hand Practica SLR that the flash sync didn't even work on I decided to spend some money and get a good SLR.
My considerations at that time were the Canon AE-1, Olympus OM-10, Pentax ME and the Nikon FM or FE.
I decided on the Aperture priority Nikon FE with the MD10 motor drive. I've been a Nikon user ever since. This is that beloved and well used camera.
WOW!!! You had a Practica?! My Dad had one for years. I was in my teens or younger. I inherited it when he purchased a new camera. I think the Practica was the one I took to Europe (with a couple of additional lenses) when I spent the summer of 1960 there.(Had to use an external light meter..... glad those days are past) Got some great photos on it. (So did my Dad. He was an amateur award winning photo hobbyist....... got me started with the hobby.)
I love old cameras my first SLR was stolen and I dropped out if photography for quite a few years - somehow I felt more in control in the pre digital age
