It was lovely to be back home, Autumn Evening by Frances Cornford is the title of one of my favourite poems ....The shadows flickering , the daylight dying, And I upon the old red sofa lying, The great brown shadows leaping up the wall, The sparrows twittering and that is all .I thought to send my soul to far off lands, Where fairies scamper on windy sands, Or where the autumn rain comes drumming downOn huddled roofs in an enchanted town. But O my sleepy soul , it will not roam, It is too happy and too warm at home, With just the shadows leaping up the wall,The sparrows twittering ,and that is all.
How totally wonderful Diana! You know I love your home, this looks like my sort of place. The sunlight on the walls...wonderful. Glad to hear from you and hope you recovery is going well. A fave!
No wonder you were glad to be back Diana this looks so cosy & inviting ...a lovely place to convalesce !!! The poem is perfect too & just sums up my husband , he wants to be at home always !! Trying to get him to book for NZ is such hard work !! He gets excited two days before we fly but before that it is such hard work !!!
Oh what a lovely poem - and she's buried at the Ascension Burial Ground in Cambridge with Francis. If I remember rightly their gravestone is one of the ones on the main route around the periphery. You'll have to get Helen to take you on a little pilgrimage - it's a fascinating place. http://365project.org/judithg/365/2011-04-02
