"We come on a ship we call the Mayflower,
We come on a ship that sailed the moon
We come at the age's most uncertain hour
And sing the American tune
But it's all right, it's all right
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's gonna be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest,
That's all, I'm trying to get some rest....
American Tune was released in 1973 on the album There Goes Rhym' Simon. The song offers a perspective on the American experience, with references to struggle, weariness, hard work, confusion, and homesickness.
In selecting an appropriate image to match this poignant and beautiful song, I thought - what could be more American than a Chevrolet Impala, the number one selling U.S. car for decades. This particular 1995 Impala SS was my uncle's last car, it has a Corvette motor and the car flat out rocks. My cousin is taking care of it now. Captured on my trip to Vermont and re-edited yesterday. Best viewed large.
P.S. This is my 11th Paul Simon song in a row and my last. Also my 27th song in a row. I will continue this mini song/image project through the end of May.
Danny, you are so organised! Really excellent series I will be sorry when you bring it to an end. You could post random photos and ask us to find songs to go with them!
