Built in 1929, this tunnel cuts through the sandstone mountains of Zion for 1.1 miles and allows easy access to the east side of Zion national park. Once opened, it reduced the distance from Zion to Bryce Canyon by 70 miles. Next stop: the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Stay tuned.
@kwind Thanks. I doubt they would be able to hold their breath long enough for this tunnel - it is narrow, dark, over a mile long and you have to drive slow :)
I've just been scrolling back through your images of Zion and am now thinking back to a road trip we did in '96. We travelled to Idaho where our daughter was graduating after a year academic scholarship at high school in Idaho. Went through Utah and Arizona and saw some sights like these. This is what I would call awesome in its true sense!
Lovely shot!!!
A fav.
