The first full moon in June is called the Strawberry Moon (as most of the season's crop of strawberries are picked in June). I took this image handheld very early this morning (there are some benefits to insomnia - lol). My 200mm lens picked up both the brown tones of the Earth's atmosphere and some crater detail on the lower half of the moon. When viewed on black, the moon appears to be floating in outer space.
Great image! And I learned something, too... a strawberry moon! The moon was beautiful last night when I walked our dogs, but I didn't have my camera with me.
Wonderful detail. I'm jealous! I was driving home from Lawrence, KS when I spotted this moon, noticing it's different tones. Thought of stopping for a capture and didn't do it, not knowing it was a "Strawberry Moon." :( Fav
Just an awesome capture! You've obviously got a steady hand, that's for sure! We've had nothing but rain this week, so no full moon for me this month. Bummed!
