Thanks for putting yesterday's image on PP. Wooden bridges are covered to protect the wooden structural members from the weather. Uncovered wooden bridges have a life span of only 10 to 15 years because of the effects of rain and sun. Their cover extends their life ten-fold.
Love the old covered bridges. Nearest ones to us, I think, are in Oregon. There is an area there that has several. Great capture of the old historic structure.
I like your composition... how you have lined up the bridge to create a clear line of sight to the end of the tunnel. A wonderful old structure, to be sure. Thanks for the explanation.
Well, I have seen a few covered bridges but never gave any thought as to why! Thanks for that piece of trivia... some great textures in this weathered wood!
Wow, I didn't know that - now it all makes sense. Plus, they make wonderful photo subjects with all this light and shadows - as the current picture shows. :)
Thank you for the explanation, Danny. One possibility I was thinking of was so that farm animals do not get frightened while crossing the stream or river. Beautiful close up and love to see what's beyond. Congrats for the pp.
@yrhenwr Thanks, David. Covered bridges are located all over the U.S.
