My get pushed challenge from @la_photographic was "I challenge you to try to get light trails if possible". I have always wanted to try this. I thought it might work for the theme extreme this week as well.
Light speed....!
i've tried this before, never looked so cool but how did you get it so that the dashboard is so sharp, my camera bounces around all over the place when I try this...
@semjaja Thanks Sem. I used a tripod and wedged it in the back, a leg behind the driver and one behind the passenger. The third leg was the brace against the back seat, extended to push the others forward into the back of the driver and passenger seat. Top tip, make sure the windscreen is clean. I hope that makes sense.
@paulaw Thank you Paula. I did a hand held one a few months ago. I was glad to get this challenge to motivate me to do this. Can you add your link so I can see what you produced.
Hahah... unfortunately I use my iPhone for this project. And that doesn't sit well on a tripod. LoL But, I am looking in to cameras and am hoping to purchase my first "real" one by the end of the month!!!! Then you can be sure I'll be looking for tips from the great and talented Spanner. =)
@bethanyjay Ha - as if I can teach you anything - look at the quality of your shots. I had no idea they are done on a phone. You put me to shame. (PS get a Nikon - just thought I would start that old argument again).
@bethanyjay There really is no difference at the level that I can afford and as you show it is not the camera it is the photographer that makes the difference. Nikon just feels right for me and I got a good deal (better specs on my budget - camera in a sale). I had a go with both and preferred the feel of the Nikon. Also it was higher rated compared to its Canon equivalent on-line. Also my local dealer prefers Nikon. There is so much advice out there, you cannot go wrong with either brand. I couldn't comment on other makes. You will love your DSLR.
Alright - well thank you! I have a budget too and have seen the Canon Rebel T3 on sale. That is what I'm leaning toward at the moment. Lots to learn once I get it, but I can't wait!!
@bethanyjay now I do not want to add fuel to the fire but have you compared this camera to the nikon equivalent d3200? It appears the specs are better for the nikon, however do not exclude the d5100 which is what I have (it has been updated so is cheap if you can get one). It is really user friendly and a joy to use. There is a lot of choice. Things I have found useful - ISO range, ability to do double and triple exposure, flip out screen. Remember it is quite a chunk of money and an little extra now might save a whole new expense in a few years. Happy shopping.
@spanner Went out to look around at the local camera shop today! Sooo much to think about. Luckily the woman was very helpful and showed me both. The Nikons felt great in my hands. There was a sweet Canon that has been refurbished for an awesome price though... Ugh - decisions decisions!
@bethanyjay Nikon, Nikon, Nikon, Nikon.......repeat in a chant until you are brainwashed.
Seriously - take your time, do your research (compare quality and features and how they feel) make your decision and have no regrets. Exciting times! (Digitalrev tv has some good articles on you tube that might shed some light on the cameras you are looking at).
Awesome! I have a get pushed challenge of light trails this week as well. I'm sure mine would be put to shame in front of this if I managed to do it at all. Maybe I should pursuade my husband to take me on a ride while I sit in the backseat with my camera.
