The statue is located in the middle of Piazza delle Erbe in the city centre of Verona.
It's placed on the top of a fountain built in the middle ages during the Scala family era.
It was commissioned to celebrate a new hydraulic structure for bringing the water from the hills around the city to this square.
The statue isn't intended to be a religious icon because the word "madonna" was used to refer to all the noble ladies.
It's adorned with the scroll in his hands and bears imprinted the old motto of the municipality that states "in this city bearer of Justice and lover of praise".
Behind the statue you can see the fresco of the Case Mazzanti.
Beautiful!
I have fond memories of Piazza dell Erbe, and some beautiful photos, including the Madonna!
Is it still a working fountain? I don't see water coming off the top portion. (very little water was coming off the top portion when I saw it; a lot coming out the mouths of the figures on the lower part, tho)

Thank you very much

It's still working but the water comes off from lower part that it's not visible in this photo.
