A great shot. My comment is that the area around the ray is too busy. Your second response is much more my idea of good flat lay food photography

This is cleaner, in terms of distraction, but the white page is still blown out to be unreadable. (I still think it's better for me not to try to make it and to visit you and have some of your cake, though.) If you are going to include the cookbook, perhaps maybe less blown out?) The coffee cup is interesting in showing what creature comforts you were enjoying, but also serves to be a different piece than the cooking itself. Maybe including more bowls and cookware instead?
