I went up to Dunstable to pick her up from school with her mum and we took her to buy a new fish for her new fish tank (a birthday present), to the park only briefly as it was bitterly cold, and then to McDonald's for some tea, before taking her home. She was in a funny mood and I am convinced it;s because she's not used to being in the same company as her mum and me for any real length of time outside of their house. She's either at home with her mum or she's with me, but never with both of us for longer than a hand-over in general. It's not the first time so it wasn't a surprise but the photo I had planned (a portrait in the late afternoon sun with off-camera flash) was never going to happen. This was snapped in her mums car on the way to food, and was the only one I took.
It's mad where the time has gone and what has happened in just under 6 years. Life was different from the moment I found out she was coming. And even though it's not ideal as I might want given I am not married to her mum, I know that she is happy, and safe. Her mum is remarried and Alexis has a younger brother. So all is good.
And she and I have a great relationship, despite me not being around every day.
Things don't always work out to plan but we have to make the most out of every situation. You have a beautiful daughter who has two very loving parents, that is so much more than some children have. Enjoy every moment with her, I know that you do.
Your story made me cry. My sister is not with her husband and they have a 7 year old daughter. I'm sure my niece would feel much the same as your daughter if her parents were hanging out together. All both little girls need to know is that they have two parents who love them to pieces and would do anything for them. From your words, I'm sure you're daughter knows. Beautiful photo.
Happy Birthday, Alexis!!!! She´s an Aquarian like me lol But I wish I was half beautiful as she is. What a gorgeous princess. perfect light and angle. Is she in the front seat???
