I spent the early part of the day in Norwich with most of my family, having a lovely brunch at Bill's restaurant. Afterwards I accompanied my Dad to the football to watch Norwich City hold off Man City and gain a much-needed point for the 0-0 draw. On the way home the sunlight was very lovely indeed so after dropping my Dad off, I drove to a local spot and a disused windmill at Herringfleet to see if I could grab a shot. After parking the car I walked alongside the river Waveney to the mill which is a good distance. At one point I took my headphones out and just listened to the birds in the nearby trees and the sounds of the broad. It made me think how lucky I am to live in this part of the world.
I am very happy with this because after thinking about my edits this week and my normal style of over-doing it a bit too much sometimes I tried to do something a bit calmer. :)
What I am most happy about is this is one of 3 bracketed shots taken with the idea of doing a blend in Photoshop for better dynamic range, but instead I edited the shot captured for the highlights, so nearly 2 stops under-exposed. The windmill was in almost darkness and the sky was very flat so with a bit of editing I was able to bring it all back to life a little.
It's not amazing, and had I been there about 90 minutes earlier the natural light would have been lovely but I am still happy with it.
3 good things:
1 - Lovely brunch with family in the morning
2 - Norwich managing to get a draw at the football
3 - A great long walk to get to the mill in the afternoon
This is reminiscent of a photographer based in this neck of the woods, Chris Herring. I love his work, lots of sunrises/sunsets and windmills in most of them. Great tones and light Steve.
@taffy Taffy I did take bracketed shots but this is an edit of just one RAW file, the underexposed one. Fortunately the original was not full of noise and came up OK in the edit by pushing the Shadows slider, as well as gentle radial filter work in the dark areas.
@snaggy
And I didn't know about the PP so thank you for letting me know :)
