A couple of weeks ago as I write this my daughter was with me in London for the weekend, and while she was there she spotted the chess board in the corner of the living room. She asked me for a game and I said i'd never played so she proceeded to teach me.
Suffice to say I was very impressed and proud of her. Over the course of the weekend and with the help of my housemates Drew and Chris who are experienced chess players, I learned that Alexis' grasp of the game is very good and I really enjoyed playing with her.
After 37 years on the planet I finally learned to play and I was taught by an 8 year old. Humbled is a good word but pride is more apt. I loved sitting there with here over the course of the weekend while she and I both looked for the next move. I hope it's something we can continue to do together as she gets older.
I snapped this shot while we were playing at the table and she took a moment to get over the very late night she had the evening before.
3 good things:
1 - A quiet morning in the house with Alexis eating breakfast and playing chess together
2 - Going to pick the Christmas tree with Alexis and my housemates
3 - A lovely late lunch with Alexis, my housemates Drew and Chris and his family who visited in the afternoon
